If we were to derive our expectations from healthy immigrant research in general, we would hypothesize that older Mexican immigrants would exhibit slower rates of cognitive decline than their native-born counterparts. We would also anticipate that this pattern would be more pronounced with increasing age at migration. However, given the mix of patterns from studies focused on cognitive functioning, we are inclined to base subsequent analyses on the following research question: Does the “healthy immigrant effect” extend to cognitive aging?
